Boatie benefits from emergency assistance on the water.
In addition to Roadside and Medical Assistance, we also provide Waterside Assistance. Here’s how we helped one customer, who ended up high and dry on a sand bank.
Don Stalker was out on his boat with friends, enjoying a beautiful Queensland Sunday afternoon, when his boat struck a sand bank at 18 knots, literally knocking a few of his friends out of their seats. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the boat was damaged. Don quickly assessed the damage and called the Coast Guard and Riviera Assist, his boat manufacturer’s emergency waterside assistance provider, Mondial Assistance.
Customer Service Assistant, Jason Gehrke, answered the call immediately, and asked Don a few questions to determine the extent of the damage. Jason then called Ryan Hanson from the dealership where the customer purchased his boat. Jason also contacted Peter Welch the manager from the boat manufacturer’s factory to advise him of the situation. Jason discussed what action would need to be taken with them. Peter then organised for the boatyard to be open, so the customer’s boat could be lifted out of the water immediately, to minimise further damage.
Coincidentally, Peter happened to be fishing nearby, so he made his way to the scene of the accident. During this time Jason called the customer back to advise him of the arrangements and that Peter would be there shortly.
The Coast Guard, who were already at the scene, were able to tow the boat back to the manufacturer’s boatyard for repairs.
Under this particular waterside assistance program, a limousine was organised to take Don and his guests back to their vehicles – a comfortable ending to a somewhat turbulent afternoon.
