Clodagh Pears - CORPORATE COMMERCIAL MANAGER
‘If you’re prepared to put your head down and work you will progress in this company.’
Clodagh started with Mondial Assistance five and a half years ago as a finance clerk while studying a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting. Clodagh has held subsequent roles as an Assistant Accountant for travel and medical, then Insurance Accountant, and finally Financial Accountant as part of the Head Office Finance Department.
"When I moved to Australia from Ireland in 2002 Mondial Assistance was the first company I worked for, and in that time I’ve held several roles in various departments. My progression through these departments has given me a rounded view of the business. I have a team of five people, and my focus is on the team and it’s all about making their processes easier because I feel if you keep your team happy you can’t go wrong. I have learnt a lot from the style of my managers, and they have inspired my management technique. Mondial Assistance looks after me, I feel acknowledged and rewarded for working hard. The company has a great ability to identify people’s strengths when placing them into roles. There are always opportunities opening up, and staff are recognised as assets. This makes me keen to treat my staff the same way, and to pull people up when opportunities arise. I have never felt bored here, it is such a diverse business, I learn something new every day and people are so willing to help."
Phil Long - SENIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSISTANT (CSA)
‘I still get excited about coming to work.’
Phil is a Senior Customer Service Assistant (CSA) in Roadside Assistance, and has been with Mondial Assistance since 1999.
"I was a mechanic before I started here at Mondial Assistance, and I assess our customers’ issues and decide whether to send someone out to look at their car, or whether we can fix it over the phone. I really enjoy helping people and I get real satisfaction from sharing my expertise with other CSAs here, as well as helping people to resolve different issues they have with their cars. When someone breaks down in the middle of nowhere I can often make the experience okay for them. The people here are great, and that’s one of the things I most enjoy. I still feel that Mondial Assistance has a real personal touch despite the size and growth. The numbers here have really blown out since I started and I’ve seen a lot of changes for the better. I can see the company trying to look after its people: they’ve put in the gym, a great tea room, Foxtel, internet café, and coffee machines. I’m in my comfort zone here, and enjoy the stability. It is a really nice, safe, friendly environment, and the grass isn’t always greener. Every day here is a different, and I enjoy all the people I work with and the different scenarios that come up. I really like working shift work, and don’t think I could go back to Monday to Friday."
Karen Cadoo - EXECUTIVE RECEPTIONIST
‘I'm basically mum.’
"I was with the same company for 17 years before coming here and the culture change was so refreshing - it’s very positive, very caring, and people feel appreciated. I’m English, and there are a lot of people working here from all over the world because of the nature of the business, we can translate almost any language. Even with the massive growth Mondial Assistance has had, the standard and the culture has been maintained. Mondial Assistance really looks after their staff, and offers benefits we can all make use of, including an onsite gym, insurance and car hire discounts. Regular staff drinks bring everyone onto the same level and are used to update each other on performance, tenders, and directions the company is taking. I really can’t rate it highly enough".
Kieran Spain - INFRASTRUCTURE TEAM LEADER
'Keeping on top of a growing business at the same time as keeping on top of emerging technology is one of the great challenges'.
Kieran has been with Mondial Assistance for two years, coming on board as a Network Administrator. These days Kieran is a Network Engineer in the Corporate IT section of the company.
"I’m a certified Microsoft Database Administrator, and a certified Microsoft Systems Engineer. I’m 23 years old now, and have been working in IT since I was 13 when I used to do web development contracting. It is the culture that keeps me here, it’s relaxed, everyone is really friendly, I get on well with everyone, and everyone is equal which hasn’t been the case in other companies I’ve worked for. I’ve been recommended for a couple of company wide teams. The Ideas for Success program is one of these; staff come up with business ideas and cases for a global competition. Each department has a small team that fosters new ideas, which are then sent to head office in Paris, and the winners are taken to Paris to accept the prize. We came second in the last round. It is a great opportunity for me to see different parts of the business. Mondial Assistance is growing rapidly and breaking into new markets, and you have to take that into account in IT, as there are a lot of changes to the infrastructure. I’ve just spent two weeks on the Gold Coast establishing the infrastructure for our new Southport office. It’s good to be recognised, people have faith in what you’re doing."
Julie Skelly - MEDICAL ASSISTANCE OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
'It sounds like a cliché, but it really is the people here that make this a great place to work'.
Julie is the Medical Assistance Operations Coordinator. Julie is also a registered nurse who left hospital work five years ago to take up a Health Promotion role, holding subsequent roles in Medical Assistance, and as a Team Leader for Medical Assistance.
"We get a mix of clinical and non-clinical calls. We might get a call from someone in the middle of nowhere on a cruise ship who is critically ill, where we have to talk people there through helping them, while we organise medical helicopters and retrievals. We try to do our own repatriations, so you get on a plane, put the patient on a flight and bring them home. There are cases where you get quite attached to the outcome, where you’re speaking to family members, the patient, and their partners. My department is known as the MAD team - medical assistance department - and it suits. I enjoy working here because I can use my clinical skills, as well as being involved in management, which is a big change for me. My goal for the next 12 months is to really get stuck into some courses and develop my people management skills. Training is one of the focuses of my role; there are nurses who need to keep up their clinical skills, and non-clinical staff who need a range of other skills. Mondial Assistance is a fun place to work, our building and the work environment is lovely and there are great perks."
