During a working holiday in Europe, 26 year old Australian man, Paul Steenhauer was seriously hurt in a skiing accident, resulting in spinal injuries. 

Whilst Paul was being airlifted off the mountain and transferred to hospital Mondial Assistance, the Medical Assistance provider of his travel insurance policy, was contacted and advised of the incident.  Paul was immediately placed in ICU for extensive surgery for a spinal fracture.

Our Medical Assistance Case Manager, Melinda Nebauer and the Medical Assistance team provided much needed emotional support for Paul’s mum, Noelle Steenhauer, who was naturally very distressed. In addition to this, Mondial Assistance covered the costs associated with Noelle flying to Europe to be with her son during this traumatic time.

Fortunately, Paul’s operation was a complete success, and he regained feeling in his arms and legs. Once fully recovered, Paul decided to continue his working holiday in Europe. After an emotional goodbye, Mondial Assistance was able to fly his mum, Noelle back home to Australia, as part of his travel insurance policy benefits.
