Surfing accident causes wave of panic for student's mum.
A young international student was involved in a surfing accident, while living in Australia. After the accident, the student's flatmate called our Medical Assistance team to inform us that he had been admitted to hospital.
Our Medical Team immediately contacted the student’s mother overseas, advising that her son was in hospital, and that treatment for his fracture was scheduled for the next day.
We assured his mother that we would keep her updated on her son’s condition, and provided her with the hospital’s contact details. We also suggested that if the family had any concerns, they should not hesitate to contact our OSHC Worldcare State Manager in Queensland, Pam Wilson.
Later that day, Pam received a call from the student’s mother, who was in tears. She was concerned about the quality of the hospital, her son’s level of cover, and was understandably stressed about the whole situation.
Pam was able to explain to the student’s mother exactly what her son’s OSHC Worldcare Policy covered, as well as reassuring her that the Australian Health Care system adhered to the highest quality standards.
Fiona Slassor, Registered Nurse and Case Manager immediately arranged a guarantee with the hospital to cover the charges. She also provided frequent updates for the student’s mother, until she arrived in Australia.
Much to his mother’s relief, the student’s fracture was successfully pinned and plated. He was later discharged from hospital on crutches.
The student’s family saved over $5,000.
Thanks to his OSHC Worldcare Policy, the student and his family were able to save over $5,000 on medical bills, while our Medical Assistance team provided regular updates and reassurance to his distressed mother.
