Motorcyclist stranded in rural Queensland
While riding his prestige motorcycle through rural Queensland, Graeme Gardner suddenly broke down near a farmhouse, 40 kilometres from the closest town. Fortunately, the owner of the farmhouse was most hospitable, giving Graeme and his partner afternoon tea, as well as offering to garage Graeme’s bike, until help arrived.
As the provider of Roadside Assistance for the motorcycle manufacturer, Mondial Assistance faced a number of challenges. Firstly, Customer Service Assistant, Geoffrey Gregory, looked for a tow truck in the area, with the specifications and equipment required to tow this kind of motorcycle. He also searched for a mechanic to repair the motorcycle. However, once he discovered that there were none in the area, he proceeded to arrange for the bike to be towed.
Unfortunately, due to the remote location of the breakdown, the tow provider was not able to collect the bike until the next morning. So Geoffrey organised accommodation for Graeme and his partner at the nearest motel. He even arranged for the motel owner to collect them from the farmhouse (as there were no cab operators in the area) and take them back to the motel.
The tow provider also went above and beyond the call of duty. In the morning, he collected Graeme and his partner from the motel, then picked up the motorcycle from the farmhouse, before returning them to the dealership in Brisbane – 392 kilometres away!
Once the bike had been inspected, Graeme was told it would take a few days to order the parts and complete repairs. So Mondial Assistance arranged a cab to take Graeme and his partner back home, much to their relief.
Graeme saved over $1,100.
As well as a great deal of stress, Graeme saved $1,108, thanks to Mondial Assistance, including $935 for towing, $77 for accommodation and $96 for cab fares. (This did not include the cost of the trip back to Brisbane in the tow truck, which was complimentary).
